Gerda König initiated the DIN A 13 tanzcompany in 1995 and has been its artistic director ever since. Her work is characterised by the vision of using the movement quality of non-normative bodies to develop new aesthetic categories for contemporary dance. In a continuous artistic exploration of cultural realities and politically conditioned circumstances, she pursues a choreographic research approach that lends her choreographies an unmistakable signature.
DIN A 13 tanzcompany is one of the few ensembles in the world that is made up of dancers with and without physical disabilities. Since 1995, DIN A 13 has been enriching contemporary dance with aesthetic categories that continually challenge and scrutinise it. Through the continuous artistic and conceptual development of its productions in co-operation with the Goethe Institute and international artists, DIN A 13 tanzcompany is one of the leading mixed-abled dance ensembles.
