How much nature still exists in us human beings? Exposure is a radical physical search for our primal instincts and their liberation. Accompanied by sounds and music from Australian-Icelandic star composer Ben Frost, played live on stage, Julio César Iglesias Ungo and Hans van den Broeck develop a unique aesthetic that lies somewhere between urban and contemporary dance.
The multi-award-winning Cuban dancer and choreographer Julio César Iglesias Ungo has previously worked with RENEGADE, predecessor of the Urban Arts Ensemble Ruhr, as well as for the Danza Contemporánea de Cuba company from Havana, known for its Cuban modern dance techniques. He therefore understands the distinctive dance aesthetics of both ensembles – and now together with Hans van den Broeck he is combining their potential and putting them together on stage for this world premiere at PACT.
Last year Urban Arts Ensemble Ruhr, which is undertaking pioneering work as a professional urban dance ensemble in the Ruhr region, presented Cracks, its first world premiere, at PACT. With Exposure, it skilfully oversteps the confines of genre to celebrate the diversity of urban and contemporary dance.
